From Ideation to Commercialization: Earning from Your Creative Expressions

The intellectual property life cycle is ideation-creation-protection-commercialization. The starting point is generally regarded to be ideation. Although “ideas” are not protected unless and until they have found a specific expression such as an invention or a literary and artistic work, ideation or the creative thinking process is what is what is thought to give rise to creation.

Ideation and creation are enhanced and developed through skills training, workshops and capability building interventions.

In this particular session, we aim to surface examples of the commercialization phase: IP ecology, mascot development and merchandising are just some of the ways by which an author/artists is able to monetize and earn from his work.

Handling this sessions are long-time practitioners in their respective areas and can very well share their experience and lessons learned to the benefit of the participants.

Lights, Camera, Action! The Philippine Film and Audiovisual Industry

The film and audiovisual sector, along with the performing arts, are some of the hardest hit sectors of the creative economy due to the pandemic. Movie theaters, the traditional mode of film distribution, are just starting to reopen in the last few weeks.

Moreover, productions have to abide by health protocols such as holding filming in “bubbles,” a double whammy.

Like all sessions in previous days on various industries, this session starts with a state of the industry report by the Film Development Council of the Philippines, before progressing to more granular aspects of great import to industry stakeholders – contracts, distribution rights, etc

Caught in the World of Gaming and Mobile Applications

This webinar on mobile application and videogames is organized under the auspices of the Enhancing the Use of IP in the Software Development Sector Project of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)’s Committee on Intellectual Property & Development (CDIP).

Started in 2019, the Philippines is one of the three (3) countries where the project has been piloted. The other two (2) are Kenya and Trinidad and Tobago.

This webinar is the last activity under the project, as it is coming to the end of its project life at end of the year. This year, we have already conducted four (4) webinars on the topic, starting with alternative dispute resolution in April 2021.

More importantly, the module on financing of IP-based mobile app is launching during this particular session.

Relatedly, we have included videogames as a related field. Relevant for the Philippines as there is a thriving industry on mobile game development, to be represented by GDAP
